
Many people may not be familiar with the term Tonsil Stones. Another medical name for them are Tonsillolith. The definition of the term means, a piece or cluster of calcareous matter, which is formed in the back of the mouth or on the Palatine Tonsils. These Tonsil Stones are fairly common and can be caused by a group of dead white blood cells, a form of oral bacteria and an overactive salivary gland.
If you have a Tonsil Stone, you would know it. They feel like something is stuck in the back of your mouth. They can be found usually outside the wisdom teeth and jaw. They can be a little comfortable but they are harmless and painless. For people who suffer from Halitosis or bad breath, this may be a reason why. If you are doing your own mouth inspection for these stones, you will be looking for while calcifications on the tonsil located on the sides of the mouth. You may also find them on the roof of the mouth and the throat.
They are not easy to spot on your own, they may be very small in size, but your dentist will be able to see them as well as your doctor.
